How to optimise storage in your teenager’s room

How to optimise storage in your teenager’s room

It’s highly likely that, if you have teenage children, the very thought of stepping into their bedrooms, will instantly fill you with dread. After all, there’s a distinct possibility that you’ll be faced with mountains of junk, clutter and piles of clothing in all directions, right?

With the majority of teenagers spending hours locked in their rooms, it’s easy to see why they can quickly become a magnet for clutter and mess – but that doesn’t mean that you need to put up with it!

When it comes to encouraging your teenagers to keep their rooms clean and tidy, it can often be an impossible task! But did you know that there are lots of innovative and, dare we say it, ‘cool’ storage solutions that you can introduce to their bedroom space? This will not only allow you to create an inviting and exciting space for them to enjoy, it should also encourage them to keep it tidy! Well here’s hoping…

We’ve created a list of some of the ways that you can introduce effective storage solutions into your teenager’s bedroom.

Fitted Wardrobes

Although their clothing will spend most of its time on the floor, you’ll be amazed at how many clothes, accessories, and footwear your teenager will own!

Fitted wardrobes provide the ideal solution when it comes optimising space and functionality – providing a storage space for everything they need.

And the biggest advantage of fitted wardrobes is that they can be designed with your teenager’s exact requirements in mind. From integrated shelving, extra clothing rails, and spacious drawer, through to shoe racks, tie racks, and boxed storage, there are a whole range of innovative storage solutions that will keep all of your teenager’s belongings concealed from view and, most importantly, organised!

Shelving

Shelving can be a great way of freeing up floor space, but it can also provide a great platform to exercise your creativity too! For example, rather than opting for traditional wooden shelving, why not incorporate headboard storage, wall shoe racks, or floating shelving into your teenager’s room? The more unexpected, the more likely they are to love it and use it.

Under the bed storage

The space under your bed is one of the most under-utilised spaces in a bedroom. But, with so much space available, it’s also one of the best places to conceal a wide range of items that can often make a space look and feel cluttered and unloved.

There are a whole host of ways that you can utilise the available space that often sits deserted under your teenager’s bed – from baskets and pull out drawers, to oversized trunks, under the bed storage is a great way of freeing up much needed space. If anything, it might stop them from concealing all those dirty plates and glasses under their bed!

Oh and remember, when it comes to designing your teenager’s bedroom, remember to get them involved and have fun with it! After all, it should not only be a space that is comfortable and inviting, it should also be bursting with colour and personality and, most importantly, it should reflect their youth.
